How We Help
How Osteopathy can help
Osteopathy for optimal function.
Osteopathic philosophy is simple – the musculoskeletal system must be aligned for all body systems to function optimally.
Tight muscles, strains, and tensions in the physical body can restrict and compromise the body’s various systems.
An osteopath’s objective is to work with your body, assisting it in resolving pain, restoring health, and achieving optimum function and well-being, using their knowledge of the body’s anatomy and functions to determine the most effective approach for your treatment.
At Unity, Matthew Stewart has extensive experience working with bones, ligaments, muscles, fascia, blood and nerve supply to fully use the body’s innate ability to heal itself.
During your Unity appointment, Matthew will assess the ease and restriction of your body tissues, working to improve movement and comfort using various manipulation techniques, and will provide a rehabilitation exercise programme or practical ergonomic advice to help you achieve your prime.”

Frequently Asked Questions
If your question isn’t answered below, contact us for help.
What happens when I come for an appointment?
A visit may include clinical assessment, treatment, rehabilitation planning, hands-on treatment, and practical advice.
What does an osteopath work on?
Osteopaths are trained to locate the source of trouble and work with bones, ligaments, muscles, fascia, blood and nerve supply to use the body’s innate ability to heal itself fully.
Am I too old for osteopathic treatment?
Unity osteopaths are trained to provide treatment and exercises for anyone of any age, from sedentary workers to sportspeople. We have treated people from hours old to well into their nineties!
Osteopathy is an alternative health treatment. Will my doctor approve of me seeing an osteopath?
We work alongside GPs, orthopaedic surgeons, musculoskeletal and pain specialists, personal trainers, pilates instructors, and ACC.
What shall I wear to my appointment?
Comfortable loose clothing is helpful as we will be moving parts of your body. You can bring shorts or appropriate clothing to change into.
Do you have parking available?
Yes, two off-street car parks are marked ‘Osteopath Parking’ for your use. Also, metered street parking and paid car parking are within minutes of the clinic.
What is ACC?
ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation) provides injury cover for all New Zealand residents and visitors — no matter where or how the injury occurred.
You’re covered whether you were injured at home, at work, playing sports, or anywhere else. It doesn’t matter whether you contributed to it or what age you are — ACC is a ‘no-fault’ system for everyone.
All of our osteopaths at Unity Osteopathy are registered ACC providers, so no GP referral is required to lodge a claim. ACC partially subsidises the cost of your treatment when your injury results from an accident — please refer to our price list for current subsidised rates.
For full details on what ACC covers, visit www.acc.co.nz.
* Important note for birthing parents. ACC covers specific maternal birth injuries that occur during labour or delivery on or after October 1, 2022.
Are you ACC registered?
Yes, we are ACC registered.
Do you accept Southern Cross Health Insurance?
If your policy covers osteopathic treatment, yes, we do.
Unity Osteopathy provides Easy-claim to Southern Cross members.
Easy-claim partners provide a convenient way for Southern Cross members to claim for eligible day-to-day healthcare services at the time of purchase.
Just show your Member card (it’s on the app) or mention your number, and we will do the rest. If your plan covers the product or service, Southern Cross will reimburse us directly, and you will only pay any remaining contribution.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
We kindly ask that you give us as much notice as possible if you need to change or cancel your appointment, so we can offer your time to another patient who is in pain.
Please note that a minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required for all cancellations. Late cancellations and missed appointments will be charged at the full private rate — this ensures that patients in acute pain who need urgent care can be seen without delay.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation — it genuinely helps us look after everyone in our community as well as possible.
Do you accept new patients?
Absolutely. We warmly welcome new patients and will guide you through everything you need to know when you get in touch.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book online through our website or contact the clinic directly, and we’ll help you find a suitable time.
Where are you located?
We’re based at 252 Parnell Road, Parnell, Auckland — conveniently located for those coming from the City centre, Remuera, Parnell, Newmarket, Epsom, Orakei, and the surrounding central suburbs. We are close to Parnell Train Station on the South-City line, and connected via the City Rail Link to the Onehunga-West line and East-West line.
The nearest bus stops are at 272 Parnell Road for the Inner and Outer Link clockwise (stop 7190) and at 279 Parnell Road (stop 7189) for the Inner and Outer Link anti-clockwise.
Can you lodge an ACC claim for me?
Yes, if your issue is injury-related and meets ACC criteria, we can lodge your claim during your appointment. We will gather information from you at your appointment and submit the claim electronically – no paperwork or forms to fill-in.
Do I need a GP referral for ACC treatment?
No. You can book directly with us for an ACC injury.
Do you work with other health professionals?
Yes. When needed, we collaborate with GPs, specialists, midwives, physiotherapists, podiatrists, and other practitioners to support your care.
Many of our patients work in the medical, nursing, and allied health fields, too.
